We booked Cartmel Old Grammar to surprise our daughter for her engagement and the entire stay was made extra special thanks to Lauren, Greg and staff. They went above and beyond to accommodate us and our dog for the duration of our stay. Food was fabulous and location and hotel were wonderful. The village of Cartmel is a few minutes walk along the road and was lovely also. We will definitely be returning! Thank you all for a wonderful stay.

It has been almost 3 months since we stayed at Cartmel Old Grammar and I still think about our visit weekly. In fact, I am always recommending it to friends and family as it is not often you find a hidden gem that exceeded all your expectations and leaves you wanting more but this is exactly what happened. There are a lot of hotels and B&B's that could learn a lot from Lauren, Greg and the Old Grammar team. Their service, attention to detail and authentic charm is outstanding. They are masters of making you feel relaxed and welcome, as soon as you step though the door. Nothing is too much trouble and you can't help but stop and soak up the relaxed yet efficient tempo. The views from the property are beautiful and the location is perfect as everything is on your doorstep. It is the perfect place to escape from the speed of the working week and re-charge. As you can probably tell I have nothing but good things to say about the food, wine and overall experience. Cartmel Old Grammar is a hidden gem and not to be missed.

We visited for Sunday Lunch- they have a great deal on where you can get 3 courses for £45. The service is fantastic, good food is delicious and the hotel/restaurant/grounds are gorgeous. I can’t wait to visit and try their usual menu. It’s also super dog friendly- big bonus!

Google maps takes you down some terrible roads if you aren't savvy. The welcome was lovely, the food was great and it wasn't stupidly busy. We went for our wedding anniversary and were well looked after. The layout of the restaurant/kitchen/reception feels very odd to me but I guess that's due to the history of the building? I imagine it flows better for breakfast than for non-resident Sunday lunch? A lovely meal though, would recommend

My friend and I had an excellent stay recently at Cartmel Old Grammar. Really nicely done up, cosy, clean and comfortable, attentive and friendly service from the new owners and their team, and some great menu options (the Merguez sausage breakfast was a knockout).

My husband and I traveled to the Lake District from Florida, originally from the UK we wanted to visit l’Enclume we stumbled across Cartmel old Grammar on the internet and thank goodness we did! What a beautiful Hotel! We were greeted by Lauren and instantly made to feel welcome and at home. As you walk in to this beautiful country manor you are met with warm furnishings and a roaring fire.. and the experience just got better and better. Our room was cosy but on a grand scale.. again artistically decorated with little extras like sticky toffee flap jacks making this an incredibly welcoming experience. The bar was a delight and the wine and liquor menu perfectly suited to the hotel. The bar snack menu made us want to eat there and then even though we were having a 15 course dinner at l’Enclume. We initially were staying for 1 night.. we knew as soon as we sat by the fireplace enjoying our wine that we needed to stay longer! Which we did! Our breakfast was delicious and the rest of our stay was outstanding.. we know every time we return we are staying at Cartmel old Grammar. Thank you Lauren for making us so welcome

Such a gem in the heart of Cartmel! We recently stayed at Cartmel Old Grammar for my Husband's birthday. Lauren and Greg made it incredibly special and we cannot thank them enough. We were greeted with the warmest welcome and upon checking in they had kindly upgraded our room which was a lovely surprise! The decoration or the hotel is incredible. The attention to detail is impeccable and it's a really wonderful space to enjoy - it makes you not want to leave the hotel to soak it all up! We enjoyed some delicious wine on the terrace with stunning gardens and views of the racecourse and played games in the cosy bar/lounge space before heading out for an evening in Cartmel. It was raining heavily and Lauren even so kindly offered to give us a lift to our destination - above and beyond! The rooms are stunningly decorated, super comfortable and have absolutely everything you need for an amazing stay including some gorgeous flapjack treats! The breakfast is served in 'The Refectory' which is such a gorgeous space. There's so much choice from the continental selection and all such high quality followed by the lovely cooked options - there really is something to suit everyone. Can't wait to try the lunch and dinner menus next time! The biggest thank you to Lauren and Greg. You couldn't have made our stay more special and we're so grateful! Can't wait to come back. We can't recommend Cartmel Old Grammar highly enough - it's the best hotel we've stayed in by a country mile.

We stayed for three nights in mid-August, and cannot fault the experience. Lauren, Greg and their staff take great care to provide impeccable service. The food is first class, the rooms clean, well equipped and beautifully furnished and the views and location are stunning. Our dog, Barney, was made welcome too, and enjoyed mooching around the lovely grounds. Recommended without reservation, and we will certainly visit again.
